🇬🇧 Sometimes the problem isn’t the risk — it’s how we react to it.

Summary:

In this video, I share a personal experience while riding my horse and how it taught me about the nature of risk and our reactions to it. My instructor, Fernando, reminded me that the horse was calm, and it was my own worry that created the tension. This situation parallels many challenges we face in life and work, where we often avoid difficult conversations or decisions, allowing problems to grow. I urge you to confront these challenges directly and take calm, deliberate action instead of succumbing to panic and avoidance. Remember, many issues can be resolved if we address them head-on.

Transcript:

0:00: Sometimes the problem is in the risk. It’s how we react to it. I was riding my horse and a garbage truck passed by loud, big and very close.

0:17: It was a yellowing kind of like this. Besino, Besinas, Agueso, Wazura. So it is like neighbors, neighbors, please come here with your trash.

0:30: It’s like a song. But it looks funny. But at that moment when I was with my horse, I immediately got tense, not just tense, but also worried.

0:42: Oh, no. Oh my god. The horse is gonna, you know, react very, you know, it’s gonna jump or I’m gonna fall down and then I was really worried.

0:54: My instructor, my teacher, Fernando, look at me and told me the following said, your horse isn’t worried, it was all you are then he said it was all right next to the truck right next to the truck do it do it now turn away it do it oh gosh and Fernando always tells me you execute the order you do it

1:27: I say something and then you do it I have had no choice. He was a truck or he was, you know, Fernando.

1:36: Okay. I did that. And he was right. The horse was calm. The horse stayed just calm. Nothing but happened. It was everything in my mind.

1:53: And that really hit me because the happens in life. He told me that the truck is like a difficult situation that you’re having that you can have.

2:04: And he was right. Sometimes we avoid a difficult conversation, avoid a hard technical decision. If we don’t talk about this technical decision or we don’t chat with somebody else or with a team or avoid a messy system or avoid say, we need to fix this.

2:31: Many problems don’t grow because they are dangerous. They grow because we avoid them, and I include myself. Con-deliberate action establishes assistance, panic and avoidance teach fear.
